Eco Council

At Blueberry Park we want to do our best to look after our planet.  Every year pupils who wish to join the Eco Counci have to apply in writing saying why they want to join and what ideas they have to contribute.  You can tell those who are chosen as they wear their Eco Council badges proudly.

The Eco Council attend meetings and run various campaigns and projects.  For example we have 'Sw'itch Off Fortnight' every November - not only does this encourage good habits, but saves our school money and reduces our carbon footprint.  They run anti-litter competitions to improve our local area and carry out planting to earn a Northwest in Bloom award.  We are part of the international Eco-Schools movement and hold a Silver Award.  We are working towards our Green Flag award.

What is Eco-Schools?

Eco-Schools is a global programme engaging 19.5 million children across 67 countries, making it the largest educational programme on the planet.

For nearly 25 years Eco-Schools has been empowering children to drive change and improve their environmental awareness through the simple Seven-Step framework in order to achieve the international Eco-Schools Green Flag award.

Eco-Schools develops pupils’ skills, raises environmental awareness, improves the school environment and creates financial savings for schools as well as a whole host of other benefits.
